''Don't be Afraid of the Dark'' - Movie night out with Tamie

As a hardcore horror fan, I was super excited about Guillermo del Toro latest horror movie ''Don't be Afraid of the Dark". There's no question about him being an amazing director/scrip writer, I also had high expectation since it's an adaption of a classic ABC tv show. Haunted houses is one of my top favorite genre as well XD

However not many of my friends are into the genre, the few that do dont want to spend on going to movie TT^TT so I usually ended up torrenting when the Dvd rip comes out (le gasp illegal).
So, I was beyond happy that my new lolita/hime friend Tamie is one of my kind X3 (as in liking horror/creepy stuffs). Now I have a movie buddy yeah ~

Initially our plan was to see movie at 8:30 but dear me can never be on time, so we had to catch the next showtime >___<'' .

Tamie took me to this French crepe place called ''La Bretagne Creperie'' . The interior is modern and cute, I love this corner that had this marine theme going on :D

Of course camwhore is a must . Did I mention Tamie love picture taking just as much as me XD ???

The menus had quite a variety to choose from,  including sweet ,savory crepes as well as soup and salad. I got myself a Chef's Specialties ''Malouine'' which has Seafood, Leek Fondue and Wine Sauce.

First time having seafood crepe ever, it was definitely different from those at crepe stand. The crepe shell was made from organic wheat flour, and the wine sauce goes really well with the seafood filling.

Tamie had Peche Melba - Peach, vanilla icecream, raspberry sauce and whipped cream

It was close to closing time so there was only us 2 in the cafe. The only employee there took notice of us trying to take pic of ourselves so he offered to snap a pic for us. He was friendly and wasn't at all annoyed by us taking our time there after finish eating

Good God horrible lighting, i tried my best fixing the shadow of doom on our faces =_=

Bonus picture of my favorite painting in the cafe

Crepe-making is serious business
The movie was at 10:30 so we had some time to walk around Downtown, I love the area at night time, it's so busy and livel

Saw these Angry Bird Chocolate covered apples at Rocky Mountain Chocolate, forever want <3

The theater was quite full for  a 10:30pm show, I couldnt get a centre theater seat >:[ *allmyrage*

Thoughts on the movie . WARNING CONTAIN SPOILER
  • The opening credit is superb
  • The atmosphere was great. I love the feel of old style horror and the use of classic horror music (one of the reason why I'm a fan of Toro)
  • Great visual and camera angle work. The mansion used in the movie is wonderful
  • First half of the movie was good, until they showed the creatures's real form . We all know that what's unseen is always scarier.
  • Ridiculous fights between characters and the creatures. I was like so frustrated watching those scenes, like omg can't they fucking use their head ??? The weakness of those creatures is LIGHT, which is well awared of by everyone in the movie. YET, no-one is smart enough to equip themselves with shitton of light supplies for defense =____=.
  • Dissapointing ending. The mains sold off the house without warning the new buyer. Selfish bastards feeding the house new victims.
It was a pity, I had such high hope for this movie ;(. Toro why you let me down QAQ ???

With the movie all done with, we went down to Twinkle cafe in Richmond for some late night snack. Around 12pm the only cafes still open are Taiwanese/Hongkong style ones.

My first impression of the place is it's very bright and clean, with cute twinkle stars deco and the cafe's own mascot figurines

Arent those figures cute?

And here's how I start gaining weight, late night deepfried snacks and dessertss TT___TT.

Some deepfried dish with fish paste and cheese filling

Taiwanese crispy chicken - My love
Seafood pancake
I didnt quite like the 2 other dishes but the crispy chicken.

The drink menu of this place is HUGE,  with a lot of original drinks, also including some with alcohol. I had a coconut milk tea with tofu pudding, I think it was around $6, quite expensive but it's worth a try

To conclude my entry, here's my co-ordination that day

Sunny Sunday + Sweet Obsession

If you know me, I'm a HUGE fan of sweets. I can eat sweet as meal replacement, and since I work at a teahouse I often get to take home our desserts .

I've heard a lot of good things about this dessert place called ''Sweet Obsession'' and been itching to try it out. It was a Sunday off for both me and Sharon so we decided to go check it out. Our day off always started late as we both love sleeping in, plus makeup+hair time, we only made it out of the house by 1pm.

Originally we were gonna have lunch at this Sukiyaki restaurant, but when we got there it was already closed for lunch. We had no choice but to go to a close by Hongkong cafe called ''Honolulu''. I went past that place a lot before but never went inside, and noticed it's always pretty busy. Appearently quite a few people I know recommended this place too.

Camwhoring while waiting for food
The food was quite cheap as they had their own lunch special, but you get what you pay for, it was just so so. What can I expect for a $8 lunch combo eh?

I'm not a picky eater so i had no complain bout the food. However the service did tick me off. There were a lot of servers there, I'm surprised they can't manage at least some acceptable customer service. As a server myself I'm quite nitpicking when it comes to customer service. When our food was delivered, the waitress literally throw the plate down on the table corner, without LOOKING at us or even introduce the item. We had to figure out the dish ourselves. With that kind of service it's no better than an AYCE place, I guess they dont expect to get tipped anyway.

After lunch we took a walk along Main Street. I really love this area, there're a lot of antique/vintage/thrift stores and cafes with interesting interior. Take this one for example:

They serve Ethiopian food and drinks here, as well as fresh food smoothie which was very delicious X3

I actually pictured ''Sweet Obsession'' to look prettier inside though, in reality it's quite neat and simple looking 'w'

There were so many cakes to choose from, I had a hard time deciding OAO''. We ended up both getting chocolate cakes XD. The cakes were yummy and best of all they weren't super sweet.

White Chocolate Raspberry Mousse
Neopolitan Cake
All the servers there were male, and the one who served us was pretty cute as well ^w^. Definitely coming back there again

BTW, I did my own nails.

Do you like it?

A Midsummer Picnic

Back when the weather was still warm, me and all the girls from Angelpolis had our 2nd official party. The theme this time was a picnic in the park. The location is Stanley Park Rose Garden. I really like and recommended this park since it was pretty and quiet, also easy to access and close to Downtown area :)

All of the food was prepared by our talented members, Tamie made the savories and Gail baked the sweets <3.

Rose Macarons
Blueberry Chocolate Cookies
Peach Tart
Cream Cakes , arent those animals super cute <3?
Smoked Salmon & Bacon

Cucumber, egg salad sandwiches and turkey croissants
Tamie also prepared her own mix of Rose tea, and Karen brought some Rooibos teas.
It was so delightful enjoying delicious homemade foods and tea while surrounded by flowers. I've had quite a lot of afternoon tea experiences, but this was the best yet. Not to mention we only had to pay very little for all those goodies ;w;b. Tamie and Gail are the best XD

Most of us brought our own tea cup, however Tamie also brought some from her cup set collection to share too.

I believe this afternoon tray belongs to Uzuki, very romantic looking, make me want one

Another adorable item, Alice in Wonderland teapot . After all it can't be a tea party without the Mad Hatter right ;) ?

I also got the chance to talk more to other members, most I've known for a long time but barely had a conversation with. So it was really nice to get to know more about them

Here's what I wore to the party, though I didnt manage to get any full body shot D; *failed*

When the sun started going down, some members had to leave while Tamie, Uzuki, Karen , Sharon and me went for some light dinner.
It was really hard to find a cafe opened around 9pm since it was a Monday, all the nice places we wanted to visit close that day so we had to chose Aberdeen mall.  Was a bad idea trying out ''7th Heaven Cafe'', I had tomato based Borscht  soup and even I'd be honest Campbell's canned vegetable soup tasted much better. Never going back there again, while interior and atmosphere is nice if the food sucks it's not worth it.

That's it for this post, thank you for reading
